Synopsis

My name is Dan Moses Schlessinger, but on stage I go by Dan Moses or sometimes Dannymo.

I am originally from Berkeley, CA and I play lots of instruments (piano, saxophone, percussion, voice). I play keyboards in theatrical rock band called The Kilbanes, and I have recorded an album of my own music that I am very proud of. I am also a DSP engineer for Sennheiser Research in San Francisco CA. And I like to create new musical instruments.

Story

I am originally from Berkeley, CA. I got my Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from U.C. Berkeley before deciding that I needed to pursue music more seriously. So, I moved to Boston to and got a Masters degree in Jazz Saxophone from New England Conservatory of Music. Then I moved to Brooklyn, NY where I lived for nearly 7 years, gigging as a jazz saxophonist, pianist and composer.

In my last couple of years in Brooklyn, I began to shift my musical interest from jazz to rock (or more accurately, white-boy funk), and band and recorded an album called Sailors Gone.

In 2007 I decided that I wanted a slightly more steady paycheck and to give my left-brain more to do. So, I moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area and got my second Master's degree at Stanford in Electrical Engineering with a focus in audio technology, and spent basically all my time at CCRMA, Stanford's wonderful audio technology center. Here I learned the craft of DSP, as well as how to make new musical instruments such as the Kalichord. This led me to my curret position as a DSP researcher at Sennheiser, where I get to do really cool projects like this Tahoe Microphone.

Now I live in San Francisco, CA with my amazing wife, Kate. We have a band together called The Kilbanes, and I absolutely love it. We co-write most of the music and compile the songs into rock operas, most of them telling dark and sordid stories of Greek heroines and sorcery.
